What if production of the Apple Vision Pro was stopped next month? In any case, this is what the media claims The Information. More precisely, according to its sources, the production volume has been significantly reduced by Apple since the beginning of the summer, with a potential total shutdown before the end of the year.
Vision Pro: simple failure or first try to prepare for the sequel?
Enough to imagine that Apple has enough stock to ensure (low) demand and focus on something else. Still according to The Information, the Apple firm would have enough components to produce 600,000 additional headsets. The subcontractor in charge of assembly, Luxshare, is currently producing 1,000 helmets per day, half as many as before. Apple has even requested a cessation of activity by November.
It must be said that since its marketing at the beginning of 2024 the Vision Pro has only found 370,000 buyers, while Apple does not expect to sell more than 50,000 more by the end of the year. Sales started quickly, before quickly collapsing. According to estimates, 200,000 helmets are still in stock. Between this stock and the headsets yet to be produced, there would be plenty to satisfy future buyers while waiting for Apple to offer something else.
Apple ready to continue in headsets?
A more affordable version is regularly part of the rumors. A price of $2000 is suggested, half less than the starting price of the Vision Pro. Still not enough to compete with affordable virtual reality headsets like the Meta Quest 3Sbut the products do not, after all, really play in the same category. This new headset should notably have a less premium finish, a lower resolution and some fewer technologies. Another possibility would be Apple putting an improved version of the Vision Pro into production sometime next year.
Response in a few months therefore, while it also remains to be seen whether Microsoft will try to respond to Apple, which could then adapt. Rumors from the corridors are indeed reporting a new headset from the Redmond firm, despite theHoloLens 2 failure.
