The Office: the cult series will be entitled to a new improbable remake

According to our colleagues at Varietythis new version entitled The Officeis co-produced by Amazon MGM and the Máquina Vega company of Mexican screenwriter and director Gaz Alazraki, who is leading the project.

Forget Dunder Mifflin, The Office will this time tell the daily adventures of “Soaps Olimpo” (“Jabones Olimpo” in the original version), a family company managed as best it can by its regional director Jeronimo Ponce III, far from having the shoulders for the job.

Alonso Aguilar, head of Mexican original productions at Amazon Studios, said: “It's really exciting to make our own version of one of the most successful comedies of all time. The Mexican office worker subculture is one of the richest and most surreal in the world, and with Marcos Bucay and Gaz Alazraki, the two most successful comedy creators in the country, we know we have something unique that will exceed all expectations and leave fans of previous releases speechless.”

Gaz Alazraki became known in particular thanks to the comedy series Cuervos Club (2015) and especially Nosotros, the Nobles (2013), one of the most popular comedies in Latin America and one of the highest-grossing Mexican films in history. Alazraki will also produce and direct this The Office Mexican, whose showrunner is Marcos Bucay (Cuervos Club, VLGY).

Released in 2001, the British version of The Office created by Ricky Gervais, who inspired the cult American version with Steve Carell, has already seen fifteen adaptations, including German, Indian, Polish, Chilean, Saudi, and even French remakes with The Office in 2006.

Note that The Office will also be the second adaptation of the program in Spanish, after the Chilean version The Ofis dating from 2008.

In parallel with this series, a sequel to the US version is currently in development by its creator Greg Daniels. This one, titled The Paperwill take place in the same universe but will be centered on original characters.

No release date has yet been announced for The Office or for the next series The Paperbut The Digitals will obviously keep you informed. The entire series The Office US version is available on the Prime Video streaming service.
