Xbox improves its benchmark gaming headset without a big price increase
Earlier this month, leaks told us that Microsoft intended to unveil a more high-end and much more expensive version of the Xbox wireless gaming headset. The truth is a little more nuanced, since the new Xbox Wireless Headset (as it is called in English) has just been launched for barely €10 more than its predecessor released in 2021.
Despite a moderate price increase, this iteration still received notable updates. If it has the same design and the same control interface as the old model, it stands out from the image of Xbox by abandoning the circular green line which surrounded its hulls.
Improved battery life and Dolby Atmos compatibility
In addition to integrating a Bluetooth 5.3 receiver, the headset now supports three-dimensional Dolby Atmos, DTS Headphone:X and Windows Sonic streams. It therefore honors spatial sound, in order to restore the surround and aerial effects encoded on the soundtracks of our video games. The Xbox Wireless Headset also benefits from an extended battery life of 20 hours, while that of its predecessor stopped at 3 p.m.
For smoother conversations with our teammates, Microsoft also announces that it has improved the microphone's ability to isolate our voice from ambient noise. An automatic mic mute feature has also been introduced.
Unchanged acoustic design and comfort
The Xbox Wireless Headset takes the comfort level and acoustic design of its predecessor. We can always count on a padded headband and earpads wrapped in polyurethane leather. In addition, the headset adopts 40 mm transducers designed to reproduce audio streams over a bandwidth of between 20 Hz and 20 kHz. In terms of compatibility, this Xbox headset can obviously be connected to a computer and a smartphone, in addition to Xbox Series X, Series S and One consoles.
If we regret the absence of an active noise reduction system and a removable microphone, its price positioning of €109 reminds us that we are facing a simple mid-range product. The Xbox Wireless Headset is already available.
