Android 16: iOS Dynamic Island notifications could well arrive
Android 15 is just starting to come to the fore that there is already talk of what Android 16 could contain. It must be said that one of the possible new features, which concerns notifications, is exciting. Google could indeed offer a “rich notifications” system that iOS users since the iPhone 14 Pro are already more or less familiar with the Dynamic Island system. For the record, the latter allows you to dynamically display notifications in a bubble at the top of the screen to notably follow an activity at a glance.
When Android takes inspiration from the iPhone and iOS
As is often the case, it was Android Authority which unearthed a new feature present in the latest quarterly beta version of Android 15 (the famous QPR1 Beta 3), which could well arrive on Android 16 (or later in Android 15, being very optimistic ). Thanks to a new API (currently unavailable), application developers will be able to display rich notifications in the Android status bar. A bit like bubbles already offer on Android for certain functionalities, such as calls in progress.
Alongside the traditional app icon, it will be possible to add text and a colored background to provide more information without having to open the notification. The examples above, generated by Android Authority using a command line provided by Google to create rich prototype notifications, show for example the imminent arrival of an Uber, the takeoff of a flight or the triggering of an alarm .
Enjoy “Dynamic Island” on Android now
As is often the case with missing features within a system, we can count on the community to correct the situation. This is the case with Dynamic Island on Android, since several applications allow you to obtain more or less the same result as on iOS. We will think in particular of dynamicSpotfunctional and sufficiently complete from its free version.
