Can-Am Pulse and Origin: two electric motorcycles for an ambitious return to France
It’s an ambitious return. After several decades without a new motorcycle, Can-Am, best known for its three thermal wheels, returns to the forefront with two new electric models, the Pulse and Origin. The two machines are based on the same chassis (which suggests the arrival of other versions) and Rotax E-Power engines, which also belongs to the BRP group (owner of Ca-Am).
To begin with, the Can-Am Pulse is a roadster intended for urban trips and motorcyclists looking for a maneuverable vehicle. It has a compact size (2.03 x 947 x 1.17 mm), a dry weight of 1.77 kg as well as a center of gravity placed as close as possible to the ground thanks to its 8.9 kWh battery. Its autonomy would allow you to travel 160 km in the city and 0 to 100 km/h would only require 3.8 seconds before being shot down.
At the same time, its advanced connectivity allows you to control various functionalities via the BRP Connect application and Apple Carplay : autonomy monitoring, management of four driving modes, and even real-time localization. Essential information can be found on the 10.25-inch touch screen (i.e. 26 cm screen diagonal).
From a design point of view, the Can-Am Pulse features modern and clean lines, faithful to the aesthetic codes of electric motorcycles, while standing out with its LED lighting and its futuristic light signature.
An all-terrain model ready for adventure
Trail models are currently on the rise and Can-Am has designed an electric version called Origin. It has 21-inch wheels at the front and 18-inch wheels at the rear (compared to 17 on the Pulse) to clear rough terrain and full KYB suspension with 255 mm travel. Ground clearance is 274 mm. Of course, the changes made increase the weight of the machine to 187 kg.
For the rest, we benefit from the same connected screens (with two additional driving modes), batteries, chassis and motors for similar performances: the maximum speed is capped at 129 km/h and 0 to 100 km/h is done in 4.3 seconds. A model that could appeal to off-road enthusiasts wishing to venture out without the slightest noise, especially as the chain transmission is protected by a silent casing, and does not require routine maintenance.
Performance and autonomy: a strong point of the Can-Am range
To appeal to motorcyclists and electric enthusiasts, Can-Am has focused on the performance of its new models. With latest generation lithium-ion batteries, the Pulse and Origin have average autonomy compared to current standards. Fast charging allows you to go from 20 to 80% capacity in 50 minutes.
Just like other premium models on the market, the Can-Am Pulse and Origin are priced from €16,999 and €19,999. It should be noted that the Canadian manufacturer offers them in “125 cc” versions allowing any B license holder who has completed the 7-hour training course to ride with them.
