A new era is dawning in the telephony section of Digital ! If you are avid reader of our smartphone and tablet tests, you know that we use a specific tool to test certain aspects of the devices that pass through our hands and provide you with results comparable to each other: Viser. It is in particular this software, which allows us to execute usage scenarios that we have determined, that we put to work on Android terminals, whether smartphones or tablets.

We need to go further: until now, we could only use it on Android devices or devices based on an Android base, such as products running EMUI and HarmonyOS (Huawei). On Apple devices, we relied on a more traditional protocol based on a streaming video playback process. We could therefore not compare Android terminals and their iOS / iPad OS counterparts as we wanted.

This limitation is now history, since we can now apply our Viser autonomy test protocol on Apple smartphones. Making calls, sending SMS, playing videos, browsing the Internet, launching applications… everything that makes up our usual autonomy test is now available on iOS. We are now implementing it in initial tests and will now be able to compare the autonomy of iPhones with that of Android smartphones, and that of iPads can be compared to that of competing tablets. The first product using this protocol is none other than the iPad Mini (2024), recently launched by Apple.
