Apple: one last product must abandon Lightning for USB-C, and it has great promises
In a few weeks, Apple has cleaned up the connectivity of its devices. It actually started with theiPad mini 7 in the middle of the month, leaving the iconic Lightning for USB-C. This October 28 tackled accessories for Mac, accompanying the release of theiMac with M4 chip.
USB-C finally on keyboards and mice for Apple Macs
Consumers are thus entitled to five new devices adopting USB-C:
- The Magic Keyboard – €119
- The Magic Keyboard with Touch ID – €169
- The Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and numeric keypad – €199
- The Magic Trackpad – €139
- The Magic Mouse – €85
Note, the Magic Keyboard with numeric keypad and without Touch ID is still there at €139, but still with the Lightning.
Apple will be criticized for not having changed the positioning of the Magic Mouse's USB-C port. Always under the mouse, it prevents its use while recharging.
The iPhone SE is the latest product to wait for the switch to USB-C
With this announcement, there remains more than a device stuck in the Lightning era : the iPhone SE. The third generation was in fact released well before the iPhone 15, introducing for the first time the USB-C port on an iPhone.
The good news in the story is that the iPhone SE 4 is just around the corner. According to a recent rumor, the launch would be planned for March 2025just in time for the spring season.
