At no extra cost Apple doubles the amount of RAM on MacBook Airs
Apple took advantage of its announcement week to switch the vast majority of its Macs to 16 GB of unified memory by default. So the iMac M4, the Mac mini M4 and fortunately the MacBook Pro M4 do not have entry-level models with 8 GB of unified memory.
Doubled unified memory at no extra cost
We thought we would have to wait for the renewal of the MacBook Air with the M4 chip in April 2025 to hope to see the most popular MacBook move to 16 GB of unified memory by default.
Finally, Apple is not waiting for 2025 and is already offering all MacBook Airs, whether M2 or M3, with a minimum configuration of 16 GB of unified memory at no additional cost.
Thus, the 13-inch MacBook Air M2 with 16 GB of unified memory and 256 GB of storage starts at 1199 euros, the 13-inch MacBook Air M3 at 1299 euros and the 15-inch at 1599 euros. With the move to 16 GB of unified memory across all basic configurations, Apple is correcting an anomaly that lasted a year too long. We are now impatiently awaiting the move to 512 GB of storage by default.
