While most current surveillance cameras are reliable during the day, it's often a different story once night falls, but it is precisely in the dark that Eufy's latest model should shine. The eufyCam S3 Pro, its name, more precisely promises “colorful and clear images 24/7, without a projector”. It instead relies on a new technology called MaxColor Vision.
Images that regain color thanks to AI
MaxColor Vision combines wide f/1.0 aperture optics mounted on a 4 Mpx, 1/1.8 inch sensor with a processor powered by artificial intelligence for image processing, up to 4K. Unlike most competing solutions, such as that of Ezviz's C3Xthat of Eufy would not need any light source and would manage even in the most total darkness to reproduce faithful colors. The manufacturer also mentions the possibility of identifying faces or reading a license plate up to 9m away; the sharpness would therefore also be there.
In addition to this new technology, the eufyCam S3 Pro still offers more conventional infrared vision and a projector is also provided, with automatic brightness adjustment as a bonus. It should therefore be able to be used without risk of “burning” part of the image.
Radar detection for more precision and fewer false alarms
Eufy's latest camera doesn't just innovate in image capture. It also promises to push the limits of two-way audio with a “dual microphone array” supposed to pick up voices up to 8m away, and it is the first model from the manufacturer to offer a radar detection system. This technology already used by Ring, notably on the Stick Up Cam Pro promises more precise detection of movements than the more usual passive infrared (PIR) sensor, which is still integrated as a bonus.
This should in particular help reduce false alarms. Of course, the user will also be able to count on a good dose of AI. This can more precisely detect human shapes, vehicles, animals, but also recognize previously recorded faces.
This artificial intelligence is not integrated directly into the camera, but into a HomeBase, a station which acts as an intermediary between the camera and the home's Wi-Fi network. Nothing new on this side since it is in reality the HomeBase S380 which also accompanies eufyCam 3 already tested, which does not make it any less practical with its hard drive slot to centralize images from several cameras locally.
A more efficient solar panel
Last but not least, Eufy's latest camera integrates a 13,000 mAh battery and a new generation solar panel, 50% larger than previous models. Thanks to this, it would be enough for one hour of sunshine per day to not have to recharge the battery, but note that the large capacity of the battery would offer up to a year of autonomy. Something to see coming even in bad weather. Let us also add that the camera has been designed to withstand bad weather, as well as extreme temperatures: between -10 and 45°C.
If this eufyCam S3 Pro catches your eye, you can already find it commercially. The camera alone is sold at the recommended retail price of €279 for those who already have the HomeBase S380, but it is also sold in sets of 2 to 4 cameras with the latter starting at €649.
