When we hear Galaxy when talking about smartphones, the Samsung brand comes directly to mind. From the Galaxy A focused on the entry and mid-range, to Galaxy S for the high-end and the Galaxy Z for the folding ones, the South Korean firm offers simple identification of the various models marketed since 2009.

According to a new rumor coming directly from South Korea, Samsung is considering reviewing the nomenclature of its range of smartphones. Internally, the group is indeed considering offering new brands. It would be more distinctly a question of concentrating on high-end models to distinguish them more clearly from other models.

The media E-Todayat the origin of this information, explains precisely that Samsung “investigates various ideas for changing or adding smartphone brands, as well as the pros and cons of launching new brands”.

This idea is not surprising when we take up the words of Lee Young-hee, head of global marketing at Samsung Electronics, during CES 2024: “Galaxy has so many lines that I know people expect a new name when there is an innovative twist”.

The innovation of the most high-end models, such as the Galaxy S and Galaxy Zcould thus justify the arrival of a new name in the years to come.

Neowin also emphasizes that this type of strategy has already worked for other companies: “Brands like Hyundai […] have found success by launching their luxury brand, Genesis, and Samsung may be hoping to replicate this by creating a new premium brand”*.
