This Google service is used at least once a month by a quarter of the world's population
It will come as no surprise to anyone: Google Maps is the most popular geolocation service in the world. And for good reason: it is directly integrated into Google, and is one of the first results as soon as you type a location on the search engine. What we didn't know, however, was the extent of this popularity. Tuesday October 29, Alphabet was able to reveal some of its key figures for the third quarter of 2024. Among them, we learned in particular that Google Maps is used by 2 billion people monthly. In essence, this means that one in four people in the world uses Google Maps at least once a month.
Google breaks records
While this figure is particularly impressive, it is not the only one to have been shared by Google. We thus learn that the firm benefited from a turnover of 88.27 billion dollars over the July/September period. This is 15% more compared to the 77 billion recorded during the third quarter of 2023. Youtube alone reported 10% of this total, with 8.92 billion over the same period, (compared to 7.95 billion ago one year). In other words, the accounts are good at Google & Alphabet, and the trend is once again upwards.
Google also shared some information about features recently launched by the firm: we were able to discover that Circle to Search is now available on more than 150 million Android models. Google Lens is also very successful, having generated more than 20 billion searches per month. Furthermore, Alphabet is seeing big growth for Gemini, which is now used 14 times more than six months ago. In short, all these figures are intended to show the public the impact of Google on the world, and to signal the good health of the multinational Alphabet as a whole.
