Star Wars: the next film about Rey Skywalker in great difficulty
The balance of the Force is rather unstable at Disney. Indeed, the Star Wars film project dedicated to Rey Skywalker, and following the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalkeris experiencing another major setback, since it has just lost its main screenwriter.
Back to square one
As indicated by our colleagues from VarietySteven Knight (Peaky Blinders) has indeed left the project. He was not the first author on the project, since he joined the Star Wars universe at the beginning of last year 2023, replacing Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson in the script of this feature film which should follow Rey as she attempts to build a new Jedi academy.
News which can be partly explained by Knight's busy schedule, already busy with his other projects, including the film Peaky Blinders For Netflix currently filming.
Lucasfilm is actively seeking to replace him but this setback undoubtedly means that this feature film, which must still be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Miss Marvel), will not enter production until at least the second half of 2025.
While waiting to learn more, the next Star Wars film to be released in theaters is still The Mandalorian & Grogufrom the series Disney+ The Mandalorianand which is scheduled for theatrical release in May 2026.
Mickey's House also has two other Star Wars films on the schedule, one for December 2026 and the other for December 2027. Will one of them be the film about Rey? Maybe… if it manages to see the light of day by then.
