We weren't necessarily expecting it there, but Royal Enfield, one of the heavyweights in motorcycle history, is entering the electric world. After more than a century of models with a simple and timeless design, the Indian brand is taking a surprising turn with the launch of Flying Flea, a brand new brand dedicated to electric two-wheelers. And to mark the occasion, Royal Enfield presented its first two creations during Eicma 2024 in Milan (Italy): the Flying Flea C6 and the Flying Flea S6, which will arrive on the market in spring 2026.

This change of direction can be explained by the wind of modernization that has been blowing over Royal Enfield for several years. Because it is a major challenge: developing an electric motorcycle from A to Z with everything that implies: suppliers, battery, chassis, autonomy, charging, BMS, etc. Since 2019, a dedicated team in India and the United Kingdom has been working on this project. Moreover, in January 2023, the Indian manufacturer joined forces with Stark Future, a start-up which manufactures electric motocross bikes.

The design will take place in a new factory in Chennai entirely dedicated to the production of electric models. In terms of style, the Flying Flea C6 plays the neo-retro card, while the Flying Flea S6 has the air of a modern scrambler.

Obviously, the research focused on reducing the weight of the structure, to counterbalance the mass generated by the battery. So, the frame is made of aluminum and the battery case is made of magnesium. The models should also include modern functions such as starting via smartphone, cornering ABS, and cruise control.

For the moment, the technical specifics such as autonomy or power remain unknown, but Royal Enfield already ensures that the batteries will not be visual constraints, but design elements in their own right. An approach already proposed by Can-Am with its Pulse and Origin.
