Google Pixel 9: new security update with bonus bug fixes
After the Feature Drop of October, accompanying the release of Android 15 on Pixels, Google is back with a security update. The opportunity to address significant vulnerabilities, while fixing bugs on its latest generation of smartphones, Pixel 9.
What's new for Pixels with the November 2024 security patch?
While Samsung tackled its Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra with the November 2024 security updateGoogle is just getting down to the task, but with full deployment on all its compatible devices:
- Pixel 6, 6 Pro and 6a
- Pixel 7, 7 Pro and 7a
- Pixel 88 Pro and 8a
- Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL and 9 Pro Fold
- Pixel Fold
- Pixel Tablet
Inside this patch, there are 21 security fixes inherent to Android, with vulnerabilities rated as significant risk to critical.
There are also two flaws (CVE-2024-43047 and CVE-2024-43093) which allowed malicious people to grant themselves elevated privileges on the smartphone, and thus exploit the data found there.
9to5Google points out in passing that three additional security fixes exclusive to Pixels have been made via this new update.
Bug fixes galore for Pixel 9
In addition to closing security vulnerabilities, the November 2024 update includes several bug fixes.
Concerning the Pixel 9 rangewe learn that Google has fixed problems related to Bluetooth range, switching from one lens to another when zooming with the camera, flashing white dots on the screen, blocking activation of adaptive brightness and the button to close the keyboard.
THE Pixel 8a then take advantage of a small personal fix to the display for “flashing of the screen brightness in certain conditions”.
Finally, all Pixels benefiting from the update are entitled to general improvements in the performance and stability of certain transitions and animations of the user interface.
To install the November 2024 security update, go to Settings, then the Systems > Software Updates > System Update sections.
