Star Wars: a new trilogy of films in preparation by the screenwriter of X-Men
If Lucasfilm seems to have difficulty recruiting a screenwriter for its Star Wars movie with Daisy Ridleythey found someone to take on the task of developing a brand new trilogy set in that galaxy far, far away.
As our colleagues announced Deadlinescreenwriter Simon Kinberg will indeed write and produce, alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, three new feature films in the George Lucas universe.
Even more Star Wars
According to the first report of Deadlinethese films would be new parts of the Skywalker Saga. This information, however, has since apparently been disputed by Lucasfilm and sources close to the production company have confirmed with Variety that it would rather be a new story which will introduce new characters, rather than a direct continuation of the saga which concluded in 2019 with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Regardless, this new trilogy is still at the very beginning of its development and will therefore not see the light of day anytime soon, especially since Lucasfilm has other Star Wars films in the works. The first to be released in theaters will be thus The Mandalorian & Grogufeature film by Jon Favreau based on the series The Mandalorian and expected in cinemas in May 2026.
Kinberg therefore has some time to put his ideas on paper for a new chapter in the franchise. He also has the necessary experience to tackle a project of this scale, having previously written and produced several films in the saga. X-Men from 20th Century Fox, including X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men: The Beginning, X-Men: Days of Future Past or even Logan And Dead Pool.
But Kinberg has above all already worked on the Star Wars universe, co-creating the acclaimed animated series Star Wars Rebels with Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck, and acting as a consultant on the film Star Wars: The Force Awakens by JJ Abrams. Giving birth to a new trilogy should therefore be within his ropes.
While waiting to learn more about this Star Wars trilogy in preparation, the other films in the franchise can be (re)watched in streaming on Disney+.
