Reader mail – Which TV is compatible with the PS5 and PS5 Pro?
We received a question from one of our readers about the compatibility of PS5s with a TV. The opportunity to come back to some technical aspects which could interest more than one, in particular with the release of the PS5 Pro.
Here is Ludovic's message:
“Hello I am contacting you because I am a little lost in terms of living room TVs optimized for the PS5, I spotted the LG C4 in 65 inches, can you confirm that my games will run at 120 Hz and not 100 or 144 Hz I'm looking for a living room TV that does real 120 Hz for the PS5. Thank you for your site, it helps me a lot. Sincerely”
Difficult to navigate with the marketing of figures hammered out by all manufacturers in general – in this case in the field of gaming – and we can understand that not everything is clear to consumers. The answer is fortunately quite simple for this specific case: who can do more, can do less. A television (or monitor) that can go up to 144 Hz will of course be able to display 60, 100 or 120 Hz.
120 fps on PS5?
The maximum image refresh is more relative to the performance of the machine than to the technical sheet of the television. It is the PS5 which will be limiting to reach 120 fps (frame per second or frames per second in good French) and therefore benefit from 120 Hz, and demanding games will often run at a much lower value anyway. The PS5 Pro should improve this situation a little, but let's remember that only PCs can currently reach 144 Hz on a television. PCs are in any case better equipped in this area, and some monitors are even capable of displaying up to 480 Hz or 560 Hz today, but that's another story.
To return to the LG C4 in question, it is fully 120 Hz compatible with an efficient panel and HDMI 2.1 ports compatible with ALLM and VRR and, as we have shown in our testit is an excellent television for video games, but also for cinema.
