Windows 11: Mail and Calendar, it's over!

While Windows 10 support andOffice 2016/2019 will come to an end in October 2025, Microsoft is now tackling two applications available on Windows 11. In fact, the American giant has been planning to abandon Mail and Calendar for several months.

The Verge finally discovered this November 12, 2024 that the blog post dedicated to this subject now included an end of application support date. We can therefore read that this software will no longer be functional after December 31, 2024.

As a result, users viewing their messages via Mail will no longer be able to receive or send new emails from this date. As usual, Microsoft is providing its transition solution to compensate for the end of support.

In this case, it is the new application Outlook for Windows which is recommended. As a reminder, the latter is completely free, and was launched last August by Microsoft. In addition to accessing emails from all your mailboxes, the service also allows you to keep your diary up to date using one or more calendars.

Microsoft thus seems to want to get rid of the Mail and Calendar applications on Windows 11 in order to no longer have duplicate applications on PC.

Please note, The Verge specifies that “Existing installations of Classic Outlook through perpetual licenses and subscriptions will continue to be supported until at least 2029”. Microsoft would thus take the time necessary to transition users from this previous version to the new one.

Of course, it is also possible to access Outlook in other ways, such as the iOS and Android application, or directly from your web browser.
