For 55 euros, Apple's Vision Pro becomes the perfect device for working!
For a first attempt in the sector of virtual and augmented reality headsets, Apple has not completely won over with its VisionPro. Although the product offers a successful interface and finishes, it struggles to find its place in the market for several reasons.
The main criticism made by the media and the first users is the lack of comfort. The Vision Pro is relatively heavy, which prevents the majority of users from keeping the headset on for long periods of time. An effective strap system is lacking at Apple, but accessories manufacturer Belkin may have a solution.
A Belkin strap that fixes the Vision Pro problem
Journalist Wes Davis from The Verge indeed shared on November 13, 2024 the impressive success of the famous prop maker's head strap. Just available on the App Storethis accessory works in conjunction with the Vision Pro Solo Knit Band.
The Solo Knit Band surrounds your head with an elastic cushion, hugging the helmet to your face but putting a lot of pressure on your neck. The Belkin strap gives you better support by distributing some of the Vision Pro's weight across the top of your head.
Pointing out that the Dual Loop Band provided by Apple is less practical to install and comfortable to wear, Wes Davis explains that the Belkin strap adjusts in no time, without compromising comfort.
“The Dual Loop Band also lacks the comfortable padding of the Solo Band, and its thin bands put more pressure where the top strap meets your head,” the journalist adds.
All this leads us to the conclusion that changes everything: Wes Davis managed to spend 10 hours with the Vision Pro on his head instead of the usual 30 minutes with Apple's Dual Loop Band.
“I can say that my neck feels better, as does my face, since I don't have to squeeze it as hard to keep the helmet in place,” he shares. The latter also mentions better stability with the Belkin solution.
The journalist ends by mentioning the price of this strap, $49.95 (€54.95 in France), of which he is clearly not a fan. For him, “it’s not just because it’s expensive – and it is! – is that it costs so much to buy something that Apple should have put in the box from day one”.
The high price and the absence of “killer features” soon to be corrected
While the comfort problem now seems to have a ready-made solution, there are still two downsides to the Vision Pro.
The first is at the level of its selling price. Starting at €3,999, the latter is very unattractive, even for Apple fans who do not hesitate to take out the checkbook for Pro versions of iPhone, Mac or even iPad.
We are in fact on a semi-finished product, which still lacks a library of substantial exclusive content, and above all, a “killer feature”. Through this term we are talking about a functionality that provides significant value to users compared to other devices already on the market.
And this lack of “killer feature” is the other downside of the Vision Pro. Although everything is beautiful and functional, this mixed reality headset lacks a specific use that leads consumers to use it instead of a PC, a monitor, a TV or even a tablet.
The good news in the story is that this first key feature is already in development. Indeed, the visionOS 2.2 beta allows you to benefit from a huge screen for your Mac. It is thus possible to replace the traditional 16:9 screen offered as standard by the Vision Pro with 21:9 and 32:9 panels. As a bonus, computer sound finally comes out through the headset's speakers.
The Vision Pro would soon be ready to replace a category of device thanks to this “killer feature”: PC screens. Concerning the price, we will still have to wait a while to see it drop, given that an affordable model is not expected before 2027.
We could still have a nice surprise in 2025 with the second generation of Vision Prorunning an M5 chip and Apple Intelligence. Indeed, the American company could take into account the criticism and readjust its price placement a little (fingers crossed, but hey, Apple remains Apple…), just to align itself not far from the price of some of the highest Macs of range.
