In its latest article “APK teardown”, a regular column digging into the betas of Android applications, the Android Authority media found something new for Fitbit, a companion app for what remains of the brand's watches/trackers and Pixel Watches.

We thus discover that Google is preparing the arrival of artificial intelligence with “a new functionality which will provide summaries, information and useful and personalized advice on sleep”.

In detail, a recent version (4.30.fitbit-mobile-110146981-694155636) introduces a new feature under development serving as a “sleep diary”. Inside, the user can write down anything that might affect their ability to sleep over the past night, whether by text or voice. Icons in the shape of a keyboard for writing and a microphone for speaking out loud to the Fitbit application are included.

“To get more information and more personalized suggestions about sleep, fill out your diary every day,” we read about this feature.

After entering the day's entry in this sleep log, Fitbit automatically generates a “personalized sleep summary” for the user. According to Android Authority, there is a good chance that Google will use artificial intelligence to generate the latter.

By digging into the lines of code, the media highlights that this new feature would take the name “Sleep Labs”.

Allow the Sleep Lab feature to use your data for sleep cycle tracking and predictions. This experimental function summarizes the links between your sleep and the elements of your daily experience (context, emotions and behavior).

Finally, we learn that the functionality was initially planned for Fitbit Premium members, but that deployment to all users could be considered.

Information that could be very important for Google, whether to add an additional selling point to its Current Pixel Watch via a future update or even for the launch of a next generation.
