From 0 to 100,000 units in 230 days, a new record

On Wednesday November 13, 2024, Xiaomi announced that it had passed the milestone of 100,000 units produced for its SU7 – currently its only model in the catalog, after only 230 days of production. This is a record for a new car manufacturer. By way of comparison, it took Tesla twelve years to reach this level, certainly in a market much less favorable to electric vehicles.

Xiaomi had set itself the goal of reaching 100,000 units produced before the end of November and thus managed to achieve it. The brand now hopes to have produced 120,000 electric cars before the end of 2024 and has increased the production capacity of its Beijing factory. While it was designed to produce 12,500 vehicles per month, it now has a monthly production capacity of 24,000 units. In October, more than 20,000 SU7s had already left Xiaomi's production lines, which suggests that the level of 120,000 cars produced could well be reached this year.

The next steps in Xiaomi's automotive strategy include expanding its lineup. Without much surprise, an electric SUV should be presented in the coming months, certainly taking many elements from the SU7.

Furthermore, with its success on the Chinese scene, Xiaomi has obvious international ambitions. It remains to be seen when we will be able to order an electric car in a Mi Store in France and at what price.
