Often criticized for its security issues, Snapchat finally responds to concerns by integrating parental controls via its family center. The update adds real-time geolocation for kids who want to keep an eye on their kids.

Children's geolocation is coming to Snapchat

Snapchat's new geolocation option works both ways: parents and children are able to ask each other for their locations. The Family Center goes further as parents access location information that their offspring shares with other users.

Snapchat allows you to configure up to three locations “keys” with automatic notifications. For example, parents can check whether their children have arrived at school or returned home with real-time tracking.

The company wants to respond to security concerns while the use of social networks among young people is in the sights of authorities in several countries. Snapchat particularly faces criticism over its generative AI, such as beauty filters.

In February 2024, the company laid off 10% of its workforce to preserve financial stability. Its stock price collapsed in August 2024, struggling to reach the records of 2021.
