Google is planning a very useful feature to limit spam in its emails
Although Gmail does a very good job of filtering spam, some will still reach our inbox. Good news, Google would consider limiting this mess of unwanted messages with a new feature on Android.
Through a new APK Teardown article, this time digging into version 24.45.33 of Google Play Services, the Android Authority media outlet has precisely unearthed a feature called “Shielded Email”.
Several lines of code refer to it, and highlight the arrival of a system allowing create email aliasesor personalized addresses linking directly to their email address.
Already used by Apple for many years (Hide my email address) or by Firefox (Firefox Relay), this device allows you to hide your real email address to create accounts on applications and websites.
Then imagine that a service to which you have registered sends too many emails, then it is possible to deactivate the alias with one click in order to no longer receive messages.
The lines of code discovered by Android Authority mention in passing that these email address aliases allow you to “protect yourself from online tracking and data breaches” or even to keep your email address “private”.
In an update to the article, the media adds that this new Shielded Email feature had taken place in the “Google Autofill” section of the Settings application. Unfortunately, it is not currently functional.
We can therefore expect its arrival in a future update, such as a Feature Drop or the next major version of Android (Android 16).
