Skeleton Crew (Disney+): release date, story, casting, images… Everything you need to know about the Star Wars series
A few months after the unconvincing The Acolytethe Star Wars universe is preparing to welcome a brand new series, coming to the Disney+ streaming service.
A series that promises to take us to the four corners of the galaxy, alongside a group of adventurous children and a strange man sensitive to the Force. Release date, story, casting, images… Here is everything you need to know about the highly anticipated series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
The history of the series
Skeleton Crew takes place in the same period as the series The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett And Ahsokaor after the events of Return of the Jedi in 9 ABY (After the Battle of Yavin), as the New Republic returned to power after the Empire's defeat.
The series is presented by Lucasfilm “like a galactic version of the adventure films from Amblin Studios from the 80s”such as The Goonies, ET, the extra-terrestrial or even Back to the future.
Its co-creator also clarified that it is “a series with children, but not for children”. Here is the official synopsis:
“After a mysterious discovery on their seemingly peaceful planet, four children find themselves unwillingly embarked on a journey through a galaxy as strange as it is dangerous. As they search for a way home, they will encounter unlikely allies and enemies, and undertake an adventure bigger than they ever imagined…”
Who is in charge of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew ?
Created by Christopher Ford, screenwriter of Chaos Walking And Robot & Frankand Jon Watts, at the helm of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: No Way Home or the recent film Wolfs from Apple TV+, Skeleton Crew can count on beautiful names to sign its episodes.
In addition to Watts, the episodes of the series are directed by David Lowery (The Green Knight, A Ghost Story), Jake Schreier (the series Relentless from Netflix) and the duo Daniel Scheinert / Daniel Kwan (Everything Everywhere All at Once).
In production, we find the usual members of the Star Wars universe at Disney, namely Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni and Kathleen Kennedy. Filming took place from September 2022 to January 2023 in Los Angeles, under the working title “Grammar Rodeo”.
In the rest of the technical team, we note the presence of Mick Giacchino, son of the legendary composer Michael Giacchino (Star Trek, Rogue One, The Incredibles), and already at the helm of the original soundtracks of the series The Penguin And Zootopia+.
What release date?
The series, composed of eight episodes, will be broadcast from December 4, 2024 on the Disney+ streaming service, with its first two chapters.
A new episode will then be released every Wednesday, until the grand finale scheduled for January 14, 2025.
