The Great Wall is a fantasy board game inspired by the history of the Great Wall of China, the Song Dynasty and the conquests of Genghis Khan.

The Great Wall already stood during the Zhou dynasty, many years before the current troubles. At the time, it was a simple series of walls and forts that protected the country against invasions by nomadic tribes. The wall has survived many wars and battles and been expanded, rebuilt and repaired many times…Much later, during the 10th and 11th centuries, to defend against Jurchen Jin invasions, the Northern Song dynasty built sections of the Great Wall , located in what today constitutes the provinces of Shanxi and Hebei. Despite the work of the Song, the wall did not hold, forcing them to retreat south. The formidable fortifications now belonged to their enemies.One hundred years later. Using the Great Wall erected by its predecessors, the Jin dynasty attempted to repel the Mongol invasion from the north. But the Song dynasty, now called the Southern Song, retained its grudges against the Jin. The Song allied with the Mongols to crushtheir former enemy. However, they did not foresee the insatiable thirst of their “allies”, and must now face the Mongol horde in turn. This is where our story begins…
Defend the Great Wall from Invaders The Great Wall is a new asymmetrical worker/soldier placement game where players face off against an AI that is constantly attacking (the Mongol Horde) and requires players to sometimes cooperate to defeat it.

Players control ancient clans from China as they attempt to defend against invading Mongol hordes and build a Great Wall. Although every player wants to win (by gaining HP/honor), they also sometimes have to cooperate to defend against the hordes. Each clan will be asymmetrical thanks to the general it has chosen (production of resources/departure of resources/departure of workers and units) and this asymmetry will increase as the game progresses (players will hire advisors with skills unique, often creating unique engines).

In The Great Wall, players take on the role of generals who defend the Wall against the Mongol horde. The game takes place in a succession of turns called Years, each divided into 4 parts called Seasons. In Spring, new barbarian hordes invade the plains which extend beyond the Great Wall and prepare to launch their assault. Summer is the time when generals prepare for the assault and mobilize their forces. During Autumn, players take turns, playing their Strategy cards, resolving their effects, and Activating Locations to gain various benefits. In Winter, the last line of Defense is activated, after which the hordes attempt to take the Assault Walls.

During the game, players will create their own unique mechanics based on the strength of their clan and interact with other players during all phases of the game, trying to get the most honor points, which can be earned in many different ways.
