Ninja tries his hand at a portable blender with his Blast

Certain concepts that we thought were unsuitable nevertheless seem to be on the rise. While the portable blender seemed to us to be one of the worst ideas in the world of bowls, blades and motors, many manufacturers, as serious as Cuisinart, embarked on the adventure. Ninja is one of the latter and has just lifted the veil on the Blast, its portable blender which therefore runs on battery. According to the technical sheet, the Blast reaches a maximum power of 144 watts, which seems a little weak for pulverizing certain hard foods like nuts. Be careful, despite this relative weakness, the Blast's motor still requires a lot of effort from the battery and the manufacturer specifies that one hour of charging allows you to mix around ten smoothies after a 120-minute charge. Good point, the operation is done using a USB-C cable; we at least avoid the proprietary charger. The plastic bowl can hold up to 530 ml of freshly prepared drink.

Limitations both technical and auditory

If Ninja is quite forthcoming about the technical characteristics of the Blast, one point is not addressed at all, that of the sound level. We know that blenders are very noisy products and nothing is said about the noise made by the Blast: it is hard to imagine the office colleague not flinching when listening to the whir of the blades pulverizing the food to liquefy it. Weight is also not a topic discussed, although the water bottle appears to be detachable. When walking, and if you haven't mixed it, you will have to carry the container, what it contains, the battery and the motor. We have known lighter.

Unless we missed something (and that's entirely possible), the portable blender is still far from seducing us. Noisy, heavy, bulky, it cannot compete, for practicality in any case, with a simple bottle of smoothie prepared before going out to go to the gym, to the office or for a walk.

However, if you are still interested in the Blast, it is already available at a price of €60 and several colors are available: white, cranberry, black, blue, purple.
