BYD launches a new blade battery in 2025: here are the new features
BYD continues to grow, particularly in Europe where the Sealion 7 was presented. The Chinese car manufacturer even stands up to Tesla. His biggest argument? Its technologies including the blade battery. During COP29 in Baku, Cao Shuang announced a new generation for 2025. The goal: to improve the autonomy of vehicles but also the life expectancy of batteries.
What's new for the new blade battery?
BYD emphasizes battery lifecycle management and works with several partners to develop reuse systems. Which means that after their first life in vehicles, the batteries will be used in other ways, notably for energy storage.
This is a major development for BYD which has not updated its blade battery since its launch in March 2020. It is a secure lithium iron phosphate component, which currently equips the entire range of electric vehicles from the automaker. Note that competitors have also launched other products, notably CATL with its batteries with charging rates up to 5C.
According to the media 36kr which cites sources close to the matter, the second generation of the blade battery would be revealed in the second half of 2024, i.e. shortly, with another 6C battery in development.
A 6C battery also on the program
Wu Ying, editor-in-chief of automobile media Xchuxingspecifies that the U7 sedan from Yangwang, a luxury subsidiary of BYD, would be equipped with the new 6C battery which offers a charging rate above 5.5C and a discharge rate exceeding 14C.
As a reminder, the Yangwang subsidiary debuted in January 2023 and targets the ultra-luxury market with its vehicles priced around $138,000. The brand launched its U7 sedan with open pre-orders at the 2024 Guangzhou Motor Show on November 15. This model has over 1,000 horsepower and is still awaiting its final price and official launch date.
BYD is the world's second largest manufacturer of battery cells and confirms, with this new generation, its commitment to technological innovation.
