This Alienware m16 R2 faces the competition
This Alienware m16 R2 is now in promotion at Dell France and offers a configuration/price ratio interesting for its category where it is one of the least expensive to offer such a high frequency and definition screen with a recent and efficient processor, an SSD with such a large capacity, a biometric authentication solution as well as Wi-Fi 7 and Thunderbolt 4 connectivity.
If this Alienware m16 R2 does not meet all your criteria, you will find in our guide Gaming laptop other configurations to play with a similar budget. For the same budget, choose the model with the most powerful graphics card, it will have the greatest impact on performance.

Chassis, connections, screen of this Alienware m16 R2
With its black anodized aluminum Dark Metallic Moon design with angular lines but soft edges as well as its connectors positioned partly at the back, it has a resolutely gamer look.
Its cooling is provided by Alienware Cryo-Tehc technology using 2 fans (94 blades), 4 heat pipes and air grilles.
This creative gaming laptop PC integrates good connectivity with its 2 USB-C including 1 Thunderbolt 4, its Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 7 wireless modules (more recent and efficient than Wi-Fi 6) to communicate and connect remotely, its practical HDMI video output to easily connect it to a TV or monitor for example, its Ethernet and audio ports but also its 2 USB 3.0 (USB 2.0 compatible) ensuring transfers of up to 5 times faster than USB 2.0 if USB 3.0 devices are plugged into it.
An unusual feature on gaming laptops, an infrared webcam is present. We can therefore authenticate by facial recognition using Windows Hello technology.
The chiclet keyboard obviously has its backlighting system.
But it does not have a numeric keypad although this functionality is standard from 15 inches to facilitate the entry of numbers.
Players will be delighted that the screen adopts a frequency of 240Hz much higher than the standard 60Hz because, associated with the latency reduced to 3ms, it clearly reinforces the overall fluidity, including in games.
As a bonus, the screen has a 2.5K definition higher than Full HD, therefore suitable for High Definition content, while its 16/10th format displays more information on height than the classic 16/9th.
No IPS here but both horizontal and vertical viewing angles are nevertheless comfortable. The sRGB colorimetry is more faithful than average and the anti-reflective treatment, which makes the screen more readable than a shiny panel in a bright environment (e.g. outdoors).
Performance, autonomy of this Alienware m16 R2
This Alienware m16 R2 may appeal to those looking for a High Definition multimedia laptop that performs well in gaming and creation.
Gamers will be delighted to be able to indulge in their favorite games with this gaming laptop. Under the most demanding titles in 3D resources, however, some adaptations are necessary to play peacefully with good fluidity.
Because the 2.5K definition requires more graphics calculations than Full HD, which results in a lower number of fps.
We indeed find on board the high-end dedicated graphics card GeForce RTX 4060 ray tracing NVIDIA Ada Lovelace.
It will be of interest to both creators and players. Because it accelerates multimedia processing under software that takes advantage of GPU computing power, such as the Adobe suite, Vegas or VSDC.
It turns out that the GeForce RTX 4060 is activated/deactivated automatically and in real time by NVIDIA Optimus technology depending on the tasks performed.
However, it is operation on the Intel Arc graphics module that Optimus favors as much as possible even though it is clearly less powerful. Because it promotes autonomy thanks to its low energy consumption.
The autonomy represents an undeniable advantage of this configuration since it is around 8 hours on battery in light use.
Some looking for a Student laptop high-performance multimedia may be of interest if thickness and weight do not represent essential criteria.
The Intel Arc is more precisely housed in the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processorMeteor Lake with 16 hybrid cores, AI features and adjustable TDP. Combined with 16 GB of RAM, it will delight as many users as possible thanks to its solid general performance.
If it supports the GeForce RTX 4060 well in games, this heart will delight creative people. Because it deploys its potential in areas requiring CPU and RAM resources using multi-core and AI, such as video editing, photo editing or 3D rendering.
Alienware logically opts in terms of storage for a very comfortable 1000 GB SSD capable of housing multiple games, software and files including personal creations.
In this regard, let us recall the advantages provided by an SSD compared to a hard drive: greater shock resistance, lower energy consumption, silent operation or even greater speed.
The latter ensures that a laptop equipped with an SSD is much more responsive and fluid than if it were equipped with a hard drive.
As a result, we can access online game cards more quickly with an SSD, and we can start/stop, launch games/software and carry out processing more quickly, for example.
Finally, this versatile multimedia creator gaming laptop PC heats up and is noisy under heavy load (e.g. games, processing).
Associate it with a ventilated support then represents a good way to contain temperatures (remember to check the dimensions carefully!).
