Freebox: canceling becomes more expensive for certain subscribers
Offers with commitment to subscribe to the internet are always tempting the first year. After the 12-month period, it is time to renegotiate your contract, and if it is not sufficient or conclusive, terminate and look elsewhere. As a parting gift, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) charge termination fees. Free was also happy to increase them.
The new price brochure shared on November 26, 2024 by Xavier Niel's company indeed mentions adjusted termination fees of an additional €10. They thus go from €49 to €59. Please note, all of the operator's offers are affected: Freebox Ultra, Light Revolution and Pop, but also the box models no longer on the market.
Free explained has Freebox universe that the termination fees did not change for all subscribers: “For the moment, the increase in cancellation fees to €59 concerns only subscriptions from 26/11 (date of the new price brochure) or the subscribers who accept the new conditionsparticularly in the context of a move or a change of offer”.
Even if this increase may make you cringe at first, it is important to nuance it. In fact, cancellation fees have no longer really been a problem for several years, in particular thanks to their coverage by operators recovering the subscriber who has canceled with one of its competitors.
Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom and Free offer this, as do their low cost versions (RED by SFRB&You or even Sosh). A wise choice for ISPs, given that they ensure that they attract a potential subscriber by paying off a good part of their debts.
In general, the latter reimburse the termination fees and the remaining months of commitment up to €100.
