Samsung is working on a foldable screen dedicated to portable consoles
For many years now, Samsung has established itself as the market leader when it comes to technology involving a foldable screen. THE Samsung Galaxy Z Flip And Z Fold thus remain the most attractive models to consumers each year, despite the fact that they have not really innovated for several generations. Now we discover that innovation could well change sectors, and move from that of mobile to that of video games.
Who wants a foldable Switch?
A new patent filed by Samsung and discovered by 91mobiles allows you to discover the design of a console very similar to a Nintendo Switch. Except that in the patent, the latter folds in two, a bit like the firm's smartphones. When folded, the device's screen is held inside, which then protects it from damage from the outside. And, of course, such technology would make a portable console even more compact, which is the main fault of the Switch as it stands (the impossibility of putting it in a pocket – except perhaps the Lite version) .
While this patent was accepted internationally earlier this month, it has actually been two years since Samsung filed it. In other words, the South Korean firm could have made good progress on such a project. But we know that filing a patent does not in any way mean that the technology is still in development. Many types of patented technologies never saw the light of day. Especially since Samsung has never really shown a clear ambition to join the video game market. It now remains to be determined whether such a tool could meet its audience…
