From 2025, Xiaomi plans to adopt a new monthly update schedule for its connected devices. This decision, confirmed by global vice president Alvin Tse via a response on X/Twittercould mark an important turning point in the brand's strategy in terms of software support. Currently, the manufacturer is satisfied with fixes every 90 days, even for its high-end models, which places it behind brands like Samsung or Google, known for their sustained software monitoring.
We should be able to do monthly updates from 2025
— Alvin T (@atytse) December 1, 2024
However, no specific details have been communicated as to which models are affected or the exact implementation date. It is likely that the first beneficiaries will be the flagship or popular series, such as the highly anticipated Redmi Note 14but nothing has been confirmed. This announcement partly responds to criticism expressed by certain users, who deplored the lack of responsiveness of the Chinese giant. Alvin Tse, however, clarified that he preferred not to “overpromise”emphasizing that adjustments are still being made internally before sharing a clear plan.
Why are these updates important?
Implementing a monthly calendar could significantly strengthen the reliability of Xiaomi devices. Regular patches provide several crucial benefits:
- Increased security: Each update includes protections against the latest digital threats.
- Optimized experience: regular technical adjustments improve overall performance, bring new features, particularly in terms of photography, and correct malfunctions identified by the community.
With these improvements, Xiaomi could not only retain the loyalty of its current users, but also attract a still hesitant audience.
HyperOS 2.0: promises to keep for 2025
At the same time, Xiaomi is gradually rolling out its new HyperOS 2.0 interface in certain countries, with a roadmap already available for the global market. According to Alvin Tse, specific adjustments to meet local needs explain certain delays, particularly in terms of testing and optimization of cameras.
If the Chinese company manages to implement these monthly updates as announced, this could significantly strengthen its attractiveness on the European market. Especially sincefrom June 2025it will be mandatory for manufacturers to offer at least five years of updates to their operating system.
