When will the John Wick universe return to television? A legitimate question that fans may ask, a little over a year after the release of the prequel series The Continental on the Prime Video streaming platform.

One of its producers confided in our colleagues The Directand has just given news of a potential second season to the show.

End of stay at the Continental

As a reminder, The Continental explores the origins of the iconic assassins' hotel, through the eyes of a young Winston Scott, as he is drawn into the hellish landscape of 1970s New York.

Basil Iwanyk, producer of the series and films John Wick (but also Sicario or recent Monkey Man) unfortunately does not have good news for those who were waiting for a sequel to the series: “We were satisfied with the first season”he declared.

“I loved making The Continental. I loved the 70s. I loved working with Albert Hughes (the director, editor's note). (…) It was a really cool and crazy idea. But I think that “We now want to develop something that will shed more light on the future of the franchise.”

He continues: “We talked a little bit about a second season. But we felt that if we were to have the John Wick universe on television, the Robert Levine series that we proposed, and that we are negotiating, is probably the best option.

There will therefore be no direct sequel to the three (unconvincing) episodes of Continental. But as Boris Iwanyk says, fans can hope to console themselves with the future series created by Robert Levine (The Old Man, Black Sails), which is currently being offered to various channels and streaming services, before launching production.

This is titled John Wick: Under the High Table (John Wick: Under the Big Table in French version), and takes place just after the events of the film John Wick: Chapter 4. It should lift the veil on the council which supervises the world's largest criminal organizations.

The project, produced by Keanu Reeves, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and director Chad Stahelski (who is also set to sign the pilot) promises to “combine the new and the old and will propel the Wick universe into a new era”. Quite a program.

While waiting to see the assassin franchise return to the small screen, the John Wick franchise will experience its next chapter on June 4, 2025 in the cinema, with the film Ballerina worn by Ana De Armas. Movies John Wick 5 and 6 are also in development. Keanu Reeves has not finished getting rid of the henchman.

You can rewatch all the films in the action franchise, or discover the series The Continentalon the streaming service Prime Video.
