Doctor Who (Disney+): a festive trailer for the highly anticipated Christmas episode
The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) must face himself in new images from the holiday special episode of Doctor Who which will be broadcast on Disney+ next December 25. For the occasion, Gatwa teams up with a new space-time travel partner played by Nicola Coughlan (The Bridgerton Chronicles).
Welcome to the Hôtel du Temps
This traditional Christmas episode of Doctor Who is called “Joy to the World” and begins on Christmas Eve 2024, when young Joy (Coughlan) checks into a London hotel and discovers that her leisurely stay is anything but ordinary. When she opens a secret door to the Hotel du Temps, she encounters danger, dinosaurs and the Doctor.
“But a deadly plan descends on Earth, just in time for Christmas,” adds the official synopsis.
“Where was the Doctor? What's going on in Joy's hotel room? An old enemy of the Doctor's is hiding behind the scenes and the entire history of humanity is at stake. Will the Doctor be able to will he save Christmas, everywhere, in one fell swoop?”
The trailer below suggests that the Doctor will have to save Christmas and bring joy to several worlds simultaneously in this new episode.

Alongside Gatwa and Coughlan, this Christmas Special also features several guest stars played by Steph de Whalley (Cyber Bride), Jonathan Aris (Sherlock), Joel Fry (Cruella), Peter Benedict (Casualty), Julia Watson (Casualty) and Niamh Marie Smith.
“Joy to the World” is written by none other than Steven Moffat, former showrunner of the series who has already signed another episode of the last season of Doctor Who.
But this Christmas episode was initially supposed to be written by the current showrunner of Doctor WhoRussell T. Davis. The latter, however, was taken by surprise by an already busy schedule with the preparation of the second season of the adventures of the Fifteenth Doctor, and decided to entrust the reins of the episode to Moffat, to the latter's greatest joy. .
“The truth is, I love writing Christmas episodes of Doctor Who. I'm a huge Christmas fan,” said the screenwriter.
