On the support page “How long will I receive software updates on my Google Pixel phone?”Google has discreetly updated its policy regarding the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7. We can indeed read that the smartphones in these two ranges now have two additional Android updates.
Thus, the Pixel 6, 6 Pro and 6a will be able to benefit from Android 17, compared to Android 18 for the Pixel 7, 7 Pro and 7a. These six models thus amount to five years of software monitoring, the same duration as for security patches.
Note, the Pixel Fold is also affected by this expansion of Android updates. This model not sold in France will therefore also taste Android 17.
All this allows Google to gain seriousness on a subject that is increasingly central to manufacturers: sustainability. Brands like Motorola or even OnePlus have also paid close attention to this recently with their latest models.
