Scrubs: good news for fans of the cult series from the 2000s
house, Grey's Anatomy, EMERGENCIES… In the 2000s, fans of medical series were in heaven. Good news, it could well be that one of their favorite shows is making a comeback, since the ABC channel has just announced the development of a reboot of Scrubsthe cult comedy series broadcast notably on M6 in the 2000s.
JD, Turk and Elliot back soon?
In the pipeline for a long time, this new version of Scrubs finally moves forward, with the arrival in the production team, and after intense negotiations, of Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso, Shrinking), the creator of the original series.
Lawrence, who is currently under contract with Warner Bros TV, was able to negotiate an agreement to develop a sequel to Scrubs among the competition, that is to say Disney and its channels 20th Television and ABC.
Although he will not play the role of showrunner/creator of this reboot, this allows the project to take a decisive step and officially enter active development, while discussions are underway to bring back the original main cast, either Zach Braff (JD), Sarah Chalke (Elliot Reid), Donald Faison (Christopher Turk) and John C. McGinley (Perry Cox).
Last October, Lawrence had already expressed his excitement at the idea of launching this reboot, while providing a note of intent: “A lot of the original creative team behind the camera, and most of the people in front of the camera, are super invested and excited.”.
“I think the only real reason to do it is by combining ideas”he explained. “People want to know what happened to the characters they love in the medical world. And this series also works because it shows young people arriving in medicine, with their idealistic ideas and their convictions”.
This reboot of Scrubs therefore promises to be a mix between the return of cult actors, and new stories with a generation of new characters. No release date has been announced, but The Digitals will obviously keep you informed.
As a reminder, the series Scrubs lasted nine seasons, broadcast between 2001 and 2010. It notably revealed the actor and director Zach Braff (Garden State) and established itself as one of the emblematic sitcoms of the 2000s. The series also welcomed a number of famous “guests”, such as Brendan Fraser, Michael J. Fox, Ryan Reynolds, Jason Bateman and Colin Farrell.
