In 2025, WhatsApp will bow out on several iOS and Android smartphones
Like every year, developers of applications used on millions of mobile devices are forced to clean up the terminals compatible with their solution. This is due in particular to features that become too complex/intensive or to obsolete operating systems that are difficult to make waterproof against security threats. This is the case for Meta with WhatsApp, since the instant messaging application should soon no longer work on various iPhones and Android smartphones.
A few more months for a few iPhones
In its help center, WhatsApp already indicates that the application does not work on terminals based on less than Android 5.0 and iOS 12. Currently, lists of smartphones to know about the WhatsApp shutdown in 2025 are circulating everywhere and should be taken with hindsight.
Indeed, as our colleagues at Frandroidprevious lists reported smartphones whose access to WhatsApp should have already been cut off two years ago. These are generally already obsolete terminals with numerous apps, and therefore probably already replaced.
Today, one of the only certainties concerns iOS. From May 5, 2025, the death knell will sound for the iPhone 5s, 6 and 6 Plus, because you will need to have at least iOS 15.1 to be able to continue using WhatsApp.
