Apple iPhone 17 Air: a much thinner model than the iPhone 16 Pro
For 2025, Apple is planning a big change for its range of high-end smartphones: theiPhone 17 Air. Coming to replace the Plus version, this new variant would rely on finesse to stand out.
The subject is also recurring in the microcosm of rumors, with figures here and there to talk about this model defined as the thinnest iPhone.
Through his latest Power newsletter, Mark Gurman finally gave an estimate regarding this technological feat. For the journalist from Bloomberg, the iPhone 17 Air would be around 2 mm thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro.
As a reminder, the iPhone 16 Pro measures 8.25 mm thick. We would thus approach a thinness of 6.25 mm on this future ultra-thin model. This figure would follow the last noises of colors who were planning for 6 mm.
All this would bring us below the 6.9 mm thickness of the iPhone 6.
This feat would obviously be due to some concessions compared to the other models, particularly in terms of the photo part, but also to a new element: a home 5G modem.
For years, Qualcomm's solutions have been used, and strongly criticized by Apple engineers as being too bulky. By developing its own solution, the Apple firm would erase this main flaw, which would fit perfectly with the slimness ambition of the iPhone 17 Air.
In addition, the company's 5G modem would offer better energy efficiency, which would have a more than positive impact on autonomy iPhones.
Note, its introduction would begin at the beginning of 2025 with theiPhone SE 4.
