Grok 2: Elon Musk's AI now free for everyone on X
Grok 2, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence, is now available free of charge to all users of the social network X. Until now, it was reserved for members with the platform's paid subscription. By opening access to Grok's chatbot in this way, Musk enters into direct competition with OpenAI and Google, respective owners of ChatGPT and Gemini. In accordance with

For several days, all users (or almost) can use Grok generative artificial intelligence from the X platform. All or almost all, because two conditions are required:
- Have validated your X account using a valid telephone number;
- Have had this account for at least one week.
While Grok is able to answer any questions and generate computer code, the chatbot is also capable of creating images. To do this, it is based on the Flux generative model, well known to fans of image generation using artificial intelligence.
By deciding to offer access to all its users, X is paying for a marketing operation: while many users are turning to the Bluesky network – an alternative to base of active members.
Certain limitations are nevertheless active for free users:
- 10 interactions per two hours;
- 3 image analyzes per day;
- 4 image creations per day.
Moderation like the X network
If the free integration of Grok 2 into Like the social network in question, the image generations seem less moderate than those from competing tools. In other words, it is possible to create fake photos featuring real people. During the writing of this article, we were able to create a fake photo of Elon Musk eating ice cream.
Grok nevertheless appears to moderate nudist content. As our example shows, the generative model refuses to illustrate the pattern of X in underwear by refusing our initial prompt.
