Prison Break: the reboot of the cult series will finally see the light of day
Fans of prison Breakthe cult series from the 2000s centered on the escape of brothers Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows from the Fox River penitentiary center, will be given a new lease of life on the American SVOD service Hulu. The latter gave the green light to the pilot of a reboot written by Elgin James (Mayans MC, The Outlaws).
A new escape
No details regarding the plot of this new version of prison Break has not yet been communicated but our colleagues from Deadline report that this reboot should not be centered on Michael and Lincoln but will take place in the same universe as the parent series. Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell will therefore not be back in the guise of the two brothers who will thus leave their place in prison to new protagonists.
James developed this reboot and is one of the executive producers alongside three producers behind the original series, namely Dawn Olmstead, Paul Scheuring (creator of prison Break), Marty Adelstein and Neal Moritz.
- Watch a trailer for Prison Break (2005) :
prison Break was entitled to five seasons on the American channel Fox between 2005 and 2017. Four of them were broadcast from 2005 to 2008, then a TV film was released in 2009. The series then returned to the air in 2017 with a fifth season of nine episodes.
The show was hugely successful during its original run, even earning a Golden Globe nomination in 2005 in the Best Drama Series category. prison Break also gave rise to a video game, a spin-off offered only on mobile, webisodes, an official magazine and a novel.
Its return to the Netflix catalog in the United States in July 2024 has also boosted the popularity of the 2005 series. prison Break is thus ranked among the most watched acquisitions in streaming this year (between Netflix and Hulu) across the Atlantic.
In France, Hulu programs are generally broadcast on Disney+ then if this reboot driver prison Break truly gives birth to a new series, we expect to see it come to fruition on the Disney streaming platform.
