Samsung unveils the look of its first mixed reality headset running Android XR
In the wake of Google's announcement around its Android XR operating system (XR for “eXtended reality”), it was the turn of its partner Samsung to shoot. Indeed, the two companies, supported by Qualcomm on the hardware side, are working on a mixed reality headset combining VR (virtual reality) and augmented reality (AR). Samsung therefore showed a first photo of its first product powered by Android XR, which currently only has a code name.
Project Moohan: an alliance between Samsung, Google and Qualcomm
Unsurprisingly resembling the Apple Vision Pro, Project Moohan (Moohan means “infinite” in Korean) aims to increase the possibilities in many areas thanks to mixed reality: entertainment, productivity and even health. To do this, Samsung will rely on its Galaxy ecosystem, Google software tools and applications from third-party developers.
Examples of the use of this “spatial canvas” are mentioned by Samsung, such as exploring Google Maps, watching a sports game on YouTube or planning a trip with Gemini. Everything should notably be controllable by voice using natural language.
A first glimpse and then gone
The screen will unsurprisingly be designed to see through, and that's about all we know concretely about this headset at the moment. For glasses using Android XR, you will have to iron.
For exact specifications, a price or even a release date of this mixed reality headset, you will also have to wait. However, a previous rumor announced a marketing period in the third quarter of 2025.
