If rumors were in full swing about the deployment of a new HomePod mini this year, Apple's 2024 keynote gave nothing away. However, according to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg media, the brand is preparing a new version of its miniature smart speaker for 2025.
Still as part of the development of its home automation offering, which we thought was being pushed into the background, Apple is also reportedly in the process of developing a new Apple TV box.
A new proprietary Wi-Fi chip on the program
According to the American journalist, these future products will be equipped with improved connectivity. They would abandon the aging Boradcom chip of the first generation versions in favor of a proprietary processor developed in collaboration with the Taiwanese giant TSMC. In addition to a new Bluetooth receiver, they now include a Wi-Fi 6E compatible Wi-Fi module. We can therefore expect better synchronization between the different connected objects from the Apple ecosystem.
As improved connectivity does not involve an acoustic overhaul or new features, the available information does not go any further. Despite everything, we suspect that this processor, which has been in the Apple brand's pipeline for several years, will be much more powerful than its predecessor. Apple could therefore take advantage of this to integrate Apple Intelligence and the resulting AI functionalities. Likewise, more computing power will allow the integration of the new Siri into future Apple home devices.
Apple plans to persist in the connected home market
For Apple, the year 2025 should be dedicated to home automation. Indeed, the brand is also working on a home hub with a 6-inch screen codenamed “Command Center”. This range of intelligent products could allow it to catch up with Google and Amazon.
If no official date has yet been announced, the new HomePod mini and Apple TV could see the light of day before September 2025. With these potential optimizations, we are not immune to a price increase compared to the HomePod mini and the Apple TV 4K, today respectively offered at €99 and €189.
