Through his Power On newsletter, the Bloomberg journalist talks more precisely about the key function of this second iteration: “Precision Finding”which can be literally translated into French as “Search for precision”.

As its name suggests, its objective would be to offer more precise location, and for this, Apple would extend the detection perimeter. Enabled by a new chip ultrawide-band (UWB), the latter would make it possible to follow theAirTag 2 at a distance up to three times greater than the current model.

More precisely, we would move from a location of 10 to 30 meters for the first generation of AirTag, to a detection of 30 to 90 meters. A strong argument for finding your objects in a much larger area.

In the event that the AirTag 2 is out of range, the display of the object on a map will be there again. It will also be possible to ring the tracker in order to find it by ear, as with the current model.
