BYD breaks vehicle production record, there's no stopping it
The Xi'an factory, in Shaanxi province in northwest China, reached its target of one million vehicles produced on December 13. This was announced by the administrative committee of the high-tech industries development zone.
BYD factory in Xi'an breaks production record
The factory is BYD's largest automotive facility in China and has been operating in Xi'an's high-tech zone for 20 years. The site brings together several BYD activities: new energy vehicles, components, consumer electronics, rail transport, electric batteries and automobile financing.
The first phase of the parts and components project has been commissioned and the second phase is gradually being completed with increased production capacity. Currently, the plant operates four assembly lines simultaneously to produce between 4,000 and 4,400 vehicles per day.
BYD now has nine major automobile production bases in China. In addition to Xi'an, the sites are located in Shenzhen (Guangdong), Changsha (Hunan), Changzhou (Jiangsu), Hefei (Anhui), Fuzhou (Jiangxi), Jinan (Shandong), Zhengzhou (Henan) and Xiangyang (Hubei). ).
It was in 2003 that BYD acquired its skills in automobile production with the acquisition of Qinchuan in Xi'an.
BYD has big ambitions in terms of sales
In 2022, Xi'an produced 1.02 million NEV vehicles, accounting for 14% of China's total production. BYD's factory accounts for 995,000 of these units.
The city of Xi'an is now first ahead of Shanghai and its 988,600 units. There, Tesla produced 822,894 vehicles over the first eleven months of 2024 after a peak of 947,742 vehicles in 2023.
BYD sales continue to make breakthrough. In November, the automaker sold 506,804 NEVs, an increase of 67.87% year-on-year and 0.83% from October.
Over the first eleven months of 2024, sales reached 3,837,632 units, an increase of 40.25% compared to the same period the previous year. Lian Yubo, scientific director of BYD, estimates that the company will reach 4.25 million vehicles sold in the whole of 2024. In 2023, the automaker sold 3,024,417 NEVs.
