ChatGPT: OpenAI's AI becomes a real free search engine, and even in telephone numbers

OpenAI has decided to end the year strong on the ChatGPT side. Every day this month of December announcements around AI take placeand one of them deserves our attention today: ChatGPT Search is now freely accessible to everyone from the web and the application.

A real competitor to Google, Perplexity style

Spear last November for paying subscribersChatGPT Search now only requires one thing to be used, namely to log in with an OpenAI account. The AI ​​“Search” button therefore allows you to carry out enriched searches on the Internet, by extracting additional information in real time from websites.

The tool is thus capable of displaying, like Google or Bing, highlighted pages, integrations of third-party content, maps based on Apple Plans, YouTube videos, or even weather results. To encourage its use, OpenAI has also made it more logical to display the results of simple queries. Typing the name of a site now directly displays it, and not a Wikipedia-style summary of its history.

Join ChatGPT by phone, because why not

More anecdotal for the moment, OpenAI also unveiled a new way to use ChatGPT: by telephone. Only offered in the United States at the moment, 1-800-248-8478 allows you to ask questions to generative artificial intelligence, and therefore do without an Internet connection. Free, this service allows you to answer the same questions for a maximum of 15 minutes per month as from the web or the application.

For international purposes, a ChatGPT chat bot has also been added to the instant messaging application WhatsApp. Limited to textual responses (no images, therefore), this tool makes OpenAI's artificial intelligence solution ever more accessible. This variation, as well as that by telephone, however, risks giving many ideas to the industry for ever more use of AI in its relations with customers.
