Ghostbusters: Netflix and Sony are preparing a Spider-Verse animated film
Sony and Netlix strengthens their collaboration. While the production of a series Ghostbusters was already made official a few months ago, the streaming platform and the American studio are also in the process of preparing an animated feature film. Here's what we know.
“Who ya gonna call?”
According to our colleagues at Deadlinethis animated film project is still at the very beginning of its development, and its story is not yet known.
However, director Kris Pearn has already been chosen to direct it. He previously signed the films The Island of Miam-nimals: Storms of giant meatballs 2 (2013) and The Willoughby Family (2020).
This agreement between Netflix and Sony is apparently part of a vast franchise development project Ghostbusterswhich therefore involves the next animated series – developed in cooperation with the production company Ghost Corps – but also this future film.
Sources close to the project indicate that Sony would like to apply the “Spider-Verse recipe” to the franchise Ghostbusters. A daring animation proposal, which led to both critical and public success, and brought the franchise into a new era.
The last movie Ghostbusters: The Ice Menace released last March only grossed 200 million dollars worldwide, for a budget of 100 million. Despite this, the saga left a mark on popular culture and generated nearly $1.2 billion at the global box office. Enough to explain the interest of Sony and Netflix in this far from ghostly intellectual property.
This animated shift is nothing new for the franchise Ghostbusterswhich has already seen two series adaptations in the 80s and 90s.
