Week after week, Apple's plans in home automation are becoming clearer. Mark Gurman also played with a new leak around a product still unknown in the world of rumors: a connected doorbell.

Through his Power On newsletter for Sunday December 22, 2024, the Bloomberg journalist explains that this system would have the advantage of offering a “advanced facial recognition” to stand out from the competition (Ring, Nest, Blink, etc.).

Thanks to this technology, similar to Face ID iPhone and iPad, we learn that the connected doorbell could “automatically unlock the door for residents of a house by scanning their face”.

The Apple doorbell would thus integrate with connected locks compatible with HomeKit. Mark Gurman also points out that the company could partner with a specific lock manufacturer to offer a ready-to-use kit.

Last point, the connected doorbell would take advantage of an in-house chip for its connectivity, as will be the case for the next iPhones.

However, we are only at the beginning of the development of this new product. The journalist thus shares that we should not expect a launch “before the end of next year at the earliest”.

As a reminder, the connected home seems at the center of Apple's strategy for 2025 with the launch of three new productsincluding a first connected screen. If all goes well, a surveillance camera would followand now a connected doorbell.
