Bluesky will finally be trendy with this new feature

Today close to 26 million users (while it was only around 14 million at the beginning of November), Bluesky is now continuing its impressive growth spurt a little more quietly at the end of 2024. And, despite relatively modest means, new users mean a need to deploy new means and new functionalities.

After the major addition of DM a few weeks ago, here comes another key feature to any good self-respecting micro-blogging social network: trending topics (or trending topics). But these “TTs”, which make it possible to follow which subjects are the most discussed on the network, are not added haphazardly.

A beta to find the right balance

If you don't see trending topics on your Bluesky page, that's normal. In order to do things right, this beta currently only concerns English. Bluesky promises that this v1 will evolve based on user feedback. For the moment, its main specificity compared to the TTs of X is that the words blocked by the user are also blocked in the TTs. Good news for its safety and serenity.

To access the trending topicsit's simple. On the mobile version of Bluesky, just tap the search icon at the very bottom. On the web version, this happens in the bar on the right. Note that if you use the tool deck.blue on the web version, the TTs already work there.

A week before adding these TTs in beta, Bluesky released version 1.96. This notably added a “Mentions” column in notifications, a nickname reservation system when a user switches to their own domain, and even some visual adjustments. What will version 2.0 have in store for us? Answer in 2025!
