Have you installed Windows 11 recently? You may have to start again
In the list of known bugs of Windows 11 in its latest version, the 24H2Microsoft has just informed a new entry which may seriously inconvenience some people. These are not those who use this or that functionality or application, but rather people who have installed the operating system in recent weeks using an installer on a CD or USB key.
A critical security breach
Windows 11 installed with these media, where the October or November 2024 security updates are included (deployed between October 8 and November 12), may simply not receive future monthly security updates . A real problem therefore, both for professionals who have recently installed a fleet of machines, and an individual who has received a new PC for Christmas.
If you had installed Windows 11 24H2 previously and received the October or November security updates via Windows Update or the Microsoft site, no problem to report for you, however.
Windows 11 installations to redo
For others, if you have not received the December security update (dated the 10th and numbered KB5048667 in the Windows Update history), you are therefore concerned. Two solutions are available to you.
The first is to wait until Microsoft, currently working on a solution, fixes the problem. However, waiting an indefinite period on an OS where critical flaws are still present is not ideal. The other solution is therefore to reinstall Windows 11 using new media, where the latest security patch from December is integrated.
