Meta Quests no longer work due to a bug, leaving users stuck
Meta has launched several headsets including the Meta Quest 3S. It is precisely this model but also the Quest 2 and Quest 3 which no longer work for some users. The company admits a “software update problem” which prevents them from functioning properly.
Despite everything, Meta explains that the “majority” of users are able to use their VR headset and that for the rest of those affected, the company “actively working to resolve the issue for everyone”.
This is good news for Meta Quest users who have been denied repair or replacement of their headset out of warranty. However, several people explained on Reddit that they had received an email confirming exceptional out-of-warranty support. One of the community managers on the Meta support forum clarified that customer service will receive “new guidelines on how to support users.”
On December 6, Meta officially communicated that an update affected “certain new Quest 3S devices”without mentioning Quest 2 or Quest 3, or specifying the software version concerned. The information was also absent from the first version of the support message as reported by the media UploadVR.
On December 9, Meta announced the rollout of its latest update Meta Quest v71 which adds a new connection method for virtual desktop display and keyboard support in the virtual environment.
