You'll never guess what the most pirated series of 2024 are (yes)

Like every year, the specialized media Torrent Freak intends to make a ranking of the most pirated series in torrent (and not in streaming or direct download) during the past year. If the animes are not counted, several sources are cross-referenced to obtain a result, if not perfect, at least fairly representative. For 2024, the names that emerge are not very surprising.

On the other hand, it is surprising to see to what extent the different streaming platforms such as Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Max or even Apple TV+ share the illegal downloading cake this year.

House of the Dragon obviously back on top

Let's not play with non-suspense any longer, yes, House of the Dragon is the most pirated torrent series of 2024. The Max/HBO series returns to the position it already occupied in 2022 for its first season. In 2023, for lack of a new season, it's another series on the platform, The Last of Uswho took this place. Remember that the parent series of House of the Dragon, Game of Throneswas the most pirated series for seven years, six of them in a row.

Let us note that if the fantasy series has therefore found its audience this year, this is not the case for its main competitor, The Rings of Power from Prime Video. The series taken from Lord of the Ringswhich was more or less fighting against the dragons in 2022, is not even in the top 10 this time. To finish on the upheavals, let's note the return of Netflix to the Torrent Freak ranking. Absent last year, the American is here in fourth position “thanks” to the hacking ofArcana.

Everyone is hacked

Prime Video is well represented in this ranking of the most downloaded series in torrent. The Boys takes second place, while we find Fallout in sixth and Reacher in seventh. Disney+ completes the podium with the very popular Shōgun. This is the only series on the platform where the running out of steam for Marvel and Star Wars shows, once hugely pirated, seems very real.

Regarding Max, she didn't just have House of the Dragon in his bag: The Penguin takes fifth place and Dune: Prophecy is second. Finally, Apple TV+ is also in the ranking with Silowhile Paramount+ snatches tenth place with a surprise, since it is the canceled one Halo.

This ranking, beyond showing that any streaming service can be affected by piracy, proves once again that pirates love sci-fi and fantasy above all else.
