The waltz of rumors around the Switch 2 could very soon come to an end. Nintendo's next portable console is only a few days away from being announced, and the final details are emerging.

Announcement and release date

According to the latest news, a Chinese leaker having already been right on the last Nintendo Direct has in fact shared the announcement date: January 8, 2025. We would therefore be less than a week from the officialization. Interestingly, the first Nintendo Switch was revealed on January 13, 2017, which offers a fairly similar launch window.

For its part, the Italian media UAGNA shared information that goes hand in hand, the release date of the Nintendo Switch 2. Set three and a half months later, it would take place on Friday March 28, 2025. Here too, we would get closer to the marketing period of the first console hybrid, March 3.

Nintendo Switch 2 motherboard

In addition to these two pieces of information relating to the arrival of the console, one of the components has leaked on Reddit : the motherboard. The opportunity to discover 12 GB of RAM and the Nvidia logo on a processor. As a reminder, an SoC from the American company should once again be there.

Please note, this chip has the mention “SNW8VF”, thus confirming that it is manufactured by Samsung and engraved in 8 nm, like Nvidia's Ampere architecture. We would thus have performances equivalent to the GeFroce RTX 3000 released in 2020, enough to bring it closer to the expected performance, i.e. that of a PS4.

The supposed Nintendo Switch 2 motherboard then reveals a slot to read game cartridges, to play new titles and those of the current generation. Finally, we notice two USB-C ports: one on the bottom and one on the top. The opportunity to facilitate charging, while retaining the same port as the first generation, essential for using the dock.

DLSS 2.0 technology for 4K

Latest information of the day: a Nintendo patent. Through the latter, the Japanese firm talks about the technology ofupscaling of the Switch 2, which can transform from 540p to 1080p. This is also a little nod to Nvidia, given that “540p resolution is also that of DLSS 2.0 Performance mode” to reach Full HD, remember NotebookCheck.

Note, the document filed by Nintendo also talks about converting from 720p to 4K. This once again corresponds to the performance offered by Nvidia with DLSS 2.0and this time with Ultra Performance mode. As a reminder, theupscaling should be activated on one condition on the Nintendo Switch 2: connection to a power source, whether by connecting it via USB-C to a charger or to its docking station.
